Celebrity Slammer

Clearly Ms. Hilton may not be entirely innocent, but the sentence handed down today for 45 days in jail was clearly one of the biggest blows to due process in this country (guaranteed under the 5th Amendment to the constitution).
In a monumental show of grandstanding this Judge sent Paris Hilton to jail for no other reason than Paris Hilton. Was it due to the fact that she was rich, good looking, etc. the reason of this judge’s decision? Maybe he just has a bias against celebrities…
Howard Weitzman, Hilton’s attorney has a profound understanding of this and so eloquently stated after the trial: “It is clear that she has been selectively targeted for prosecution for who she is.”
This statement is absolutely the case in this matter and it sets a dangerous precedent for the constitutional protections that all American’s hold dear. I personally would like to see this judge removed from office and put on trial himself for his unlawful and indecent judicial action today.

No…..she violated her probation, which in turn, can lead you to jail. She should have checked to see if she could still drive, and she didn’t, and now she is going to jail. I say that this was fair, and there is no bias. It would just be like me or you violating our probation, we would get jail time.

She violated her probation, she admits herself she did what she is accused of, although blames it on her aides for not telling her she couldn’t drive. hahaha Whatever!
I suppose you prefer when celebrities get off with a slap on the wrist for murder too?
Paris deserves every day in jail she got…

Bottom line – she violated probation and if the law mandates jail time, then she should get jail time. She’s a grown woman and giving the excuse of heeding the misleading advice of her publicist is not a good enough excuse in my book. She should be old enough to be able to think on her own. If not rich enough to buy herself a decent education. Come on now…

I thought it was for violating THREE CONDITIONS of DUI probation, not being Paris Hilton. In my opinion, she should’ve been in jail after the first incident. Drunk drivers need to be punished much more severely than they currently are, and I see no reason why any one of them should ever be allowed behind the wheel of a car again, much less allowed to travel at 70 mph in a 35 mph zone, without their headlights on. If she ever has a valid license again, then THAT will be clear evidence of the real perversion of the American legal system, not to mention a danger to everyone.

Really? Most people who violate their probation for drunk driving would have had it revoked the first time. Hilton got a pass the first time and then within a couple months she violated it again. Hilton kept giving the court the finger thinking she’s above the law and refused to follow the conditions of her probation. Punishment for repeatedly violating her probational conditions is NOT a violation of her constitutional rights.

This is the most ridiculous argument I have ever seen! She broke the law, was convicted and then blew off the terms of her probation and in a very public way. She was very, very arrogant about the whole thing basically thumbing her nose at the legal system in front of the public. Do you think she should be ABOVE the law because she is rich, good looking, etc.?? I am assuming that you are an ordinary person as I am – if we had done something so stupid (as Ms. Hilton) we’d be spending at least 45 days in exactly the same situation. I applaud the judge for showing everyone that wealth and position do not put her in a different status when dealing with the law.

She violated her probation dumb a s s. You know darn well if it was the common person such as you and I, we’d be spending time in jail as well. She was warned and should suffer the consequences just like the rest of us. I’m tired of hearing about celebrities getting special treatment because of their status. It’s not right. They live in the US just like the rest of us and the laws are there for a reason. If they don’t get punished for the things they do, why should the rest of us?

She got what she deserved. She broke probation. I think had she gotten off, that would have been the perversion of the American legal system.
Frankly, I’m tired of people being able to get away with stunts like this merely because they’re rich and/or famous, and I’m glad the judge was bold enough to let Paris know she wasn’t going to get special treatment.

yes it was probably biased. Had it been say Halle Berry …would the same thing of happend? I doubt it. In most cases celebs get it easy this was just lesson for her.
But i cant wait to hear about her experience and she will make millions off just going to jail. She’ll make merchandise or something.
loooves it. I hope she films her experience for the simple life 6

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. She deserves what she got.

I’m very surprised that there are people who believe that Paris Hilton should be given no more than a slap on the wrist for violating the law three times. She was arrested for DUI where she pleaded no contest. She was placed on probation with a suspended license and was instructed to enroll in an alcohol management program. She continued to drive on a suspended license and she did not enroll in an alcohol management program as the court ordered. Then she was stopped by police for driving without headlights at 11pm on a suspended license. How many blatant law violations should Hilton commit until she deserves jail time? Any average citizen in the same situation would have been jailed months ago. It’s so easy for the rich and famous to ignore the law because many people condone their irresponsible behaviors even those that put other people’s lives in danger. Lucky for Hilton she did not kill anyone while driving recklessly under the influence and driving without headlights at night. These violations by other people have caused death. Should the court ignore Hilton’s violations and wait for her to actually kill someone before she is sent to jail? If it is okay for Hilton to drive recklessly with alcohol in her system and to drive without headlights at night, it should be okay for all drivers as well. What a disaster that would be.

You are completely incorrect, Paris got exactly what she deserves, her ignorance of the law (my publicist told me i could drive) is just plain stupidity. She did the crime she should do the time, you are defending someone who has always gotten do do what she wants, a spoiled, idiotic, narrow minded, blonde who has no idea what is like to live in reality… if she could live my life for a week, she would probably rather be in her cushy prison cell anyway. How can people be so shallow and narrow minded? I don’t get it, if paris dropped off of this earth I believe it would be a better place, us americans are getting a bad reputation because of people like her.. on a nother note, she isn’t even good looking? like a stick with a bad blonde wig on top… and personality? where..?

GOOD FOR THE JUDGE! She’s Guilty ,guess what normal people have laws they have to follow what planet did you come from, you want him removed why are you one of her drinking buddiesdon’t worry her money will probably buy her out of this. She should have been arrested back when she stole all those magazines, but poor little Paris got out of it they show her on the tv smashing hercar DRUNK and she could care less. Feel sorry for the person she’ll hit in the future while drunk …..

It may be unfair, but the girl needs a reality check. You got your facts wrong, she is rich, but she is not pretty. I don’t feel bad for her one bit. She shows a big disregard for the law and the punishment may be harsh, but I won’t be crying over the injustice over it.

She was knowingly driving on a suspended license. The sentence handed down was what everyone would have gotten in similar circumstances. Her being rich or “pretty” as you put it had nothing to do with it. Celebrities have got to learn that life is not a game and there are consequences for their actions.

Hoowah! said, August 14th, 2009 at 3:16 pm

Well, let’s see. She’s a drunk driver. She drove on a suspended license because the rules don’t apply to her. She was caught speeding with her headlights off. The girl shouldn’t be driving. Fire the lawyers and hire a chauffeur. Her mother was angry today, but if her daughter goes out and kills someone or herself while drunk driving, she’ll be blaming these very same people for not doing something to prevent it.

If her last name was Smith and she was an average middle-class working woman, would you still think this was an injustice? I don’t think the judge was out to get her, he’s trying to show her that just because she’s rich, she’s not above the law. I don’t make a lot of money, and if I did what Paris did, I believe I’d get the same sentence.

Just because your rich it doesn’t mean you are above the law. If you are a big figgure in the world I think you shouldd actully get more to show others that they wont get away with it.

“It is clear that she has been selectively targeted”
Are you for real? Like the judge has any time for going after a whiney tart with money. Give me a break. Paris Hilton is a spoiled brat who needs to read her own paperwork instead of blaming everything on her publicist for crying out loud! Just for argument’s sake, let’s say she didn’t read the information, who’s to blame for that? She’s a grown woman! Paris needs to stop pointing fingers and be accountable for her own actions for once in her life.
What’s next? She’s going to blame a pregnancy on the fact that her hairdresser didn’t make sure she took her pill?
Or how about this one…”Sorry your honor, I know I was driving 200 miles an hour in a school zone and hit those little kids, but my agent toooooollllllldddd me tooooooooo. Now if those parents would just have kept their kids out of my wayyyyyyy….
Pulllleeez. She deserves everything the law can throw at her.

I agree. I think the judge let his personal feeling enter into his decision. I have seen convicted felons do less jail time for much worse crimes. It is reverse discrimination and if the ACLU is out to help everybody, they should help her.
